What the job involves
Nursery assistants are an extra pair of caring hands in the room. You’ll work alongside qualified practitioners, helping with everything that makes a nursery day run smoothly:
- Setting up activities and joining in with play, songs and stories
- Helping at mealtimes, nappy changes, toileting and nap time
- Keeping the room clean, tidy and safe
- Getting to know the children and reassuring them when they need it
- Supporting staff on outings and in the garden
Who it suits
It’s ideal if you’re new to childcare, returning to work, or thinking about training as a practitioner. Patience, warmth and a sense of fun matter more than paperwork. If you’ve raised children, babysat or volunteered, tell us — that experience counts.
Where it can lead
Many nursery assistants go on to a Level 2 or Level 3 qualification, often through an apprenticeship while they work. Temporary shifts are a good way to see different settings and find the kind of nursery you love.
Working with us
As a nursery assistant with Brightstart you can pick up flexible temporary shifts, look for a permanent role, or both. Registering is free, and we’ll talk you through everything you need before your first day.
