Nursery Manager

Lead the whole setting — the team, the children's learning, safeguarding, Ofsted and the day-to-day running of the nursery.

What the job involves

Nursery managers are responsible for everything that happens in the setting. The role usually covers:

  • Leading, recruiting, supervising and developing the staff team
  • Making sure the EYFS is delivered well and children make good progress
  • Acting as, or supporting, the designated safeguarding lead
  • Managing ratios, rotas and the budget
  • Preparing for and leading the nursery through Ofsted inspection
  • Building relationships with parents, the local authority and other professionals

The EYFS requires a nursery manager to hold at least a full and relevant Level 3 qualification and to have at least two years’ experience of working in an early years setting (or two years’ other suitable experience).

Who it suits

You’re an experienced early years leader — often a deputy ready for the next step, or a manager looking for a setting that suits you better. You can lead with warmth while staying firm on standards.
